If a message that is sent your phone doesn’t get delivered within 2 days - for example if your phone is switched off when you go on holiday - your phone is automatically marked as ‘away’. This means that any messages sent to your ZygoHub will not be sent to your phone. If we didn’t do this you would receive ALL of the messages sent to the group all at once when you switched your phone on again - and if you’d been on holiday with your phone off for two weeks that could be quite a lot of messages. You can still view all of the messages on the website at any time.
The administrators of any ZygoHubs that you belong to are also notified when your phone is marked as ‘away’. Your ZygoHub will not be charged for messages that are not sent to your phone.
So that we can tell when your phone is switched back on, we send a special ‘ping’ message to your phone. You will not be charged for this message. This message shouldn’t be displayed on your phone, but when your phone gets it it lets us know that it has been received. Occasionally your phone may display the message: if it does it will simply contain the one word “ping”. Once we know that this message has been received your phone is marked as being at home again, and any new messages sent to your ZygoHub will be sent to your phone.
If there are any unread messages when your phone is marked as being at home again, you will be sent a text message alert telling you how many unread messages you have. You will not be charged for this alert.
The “ping” message is only sent to your phone once, and if your phone doesn’t receive it within 14 days it will not be tried again. However, if you send a message to the ZygoHub from your phone we will automatically mark your phone as being at home again.
If you keep your phone on when you are on holiday and you have good network coverage, it won’t normally be marked as being ‘away’ - so you’ll still be able to receive and send messages.
